Grammy-nominated American rapper and former member of Big Pun's rap crew, Terror Squad, Reminisce Smith, better known by her stage name Remy Ma, formerly Rémy Martin has been released from prison after serving six years of an eight-year sentence for shooting a woman in the abdomen.
The Lean Back hitmaker, real name Reminisce Smith, was jailed in May, 2008, after she was found guilty of assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion during an altercation in 2007.
The 34 year old was scheduled for an early release on Thursday, but she was told she’d have to spend another week at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York following a phone violation on 21 July.
She walked free on Friday afternoon and announced the news by posting the message “I’m back” on Instagram.com.
Her husband Papoose, real name Shamele Mackie, who married Remy Ma while she was incarcerated, added his own Instagram note, writing,
“Congratulations to the #Queen happy 2c you walk out that cage!!!!!!!!!! Time 2 begin a new chapter It’s your time.”
