Apple iWatch Specs: 8 GB Storage , 512 MB RAM , Gold Color Option , And More

As well as noting that the iPad Air 2 may arrive next week as opposed to the usual October launch, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also shared some details on the iWatch.

It emerged just prior to Apple sending out the September 9th invitations that the company’s elusive smartwatch would be showcased alongside the iPhone 6, and although, as has already been disclosed, Kuo believes two separate iWatch variants are in store, he’s also divulged a few key tech. specs as well.

The gold iPhone 5s was a revelation for Apple last year.

Despite some pre-announcement skepticism, it sold like gold-dust, and with the iWatch likely to steal the show this time around, the decision to offer a gold color configuration for the wrist computer seems a no-brainer.

Given that gold watches seem perpetually in vogue, it’s likely to fly off the shelves as the iPhone 5s did, and with an earlier New York Times article suggesting that the device will be very much focused on fashion as well as functionality, perhaps Jony Ive’s suggestion that “Switzerland is in trouble” will ring true.

Us geeks aren’t so caught up in the gold rush, though, and Kuo’s iWatch report also underlined the notion that there’ll be two different sizing options. A 1.3-inch variant thought to be for females, and a 1.5-inch edition designed to suit the male population.

As for the internals, we already know that the iWatch will be littered with sensors and heavily integrated with HomeKit and HealthKit, but Kuo also believes that the device will pack a healthy 8GB of on-board storage as well as 512MB of RAM.

He also hazards that the device will be made up of metal for the most part, but this is purely guesswork based on the company’s affinity to using premium materials in its products.

Kuo concludes by stating that he doesn’t expect the device to ship until early next year, but even though Apple is not accustomed to leaving significant gaps between launch and release, it makes sense in this case.

After all, a fleet of Android Wear-ready watches will be releasing before this holiday, but if consumers have the iWatch on their minds, they may stave off purchasing and instead wait to get their hands on Apple’s forthcoming effort.
