Martine Rothblatt, 59, founded United Therapeutics, a pharmaceutical firm worth $5 billion. She also co- founded the broadcasting company, Sirius.
What most do not know about Rothblatt, who is the highest paid CEO in the nation, is she used to be a man.
Rothblatt had sex assignment surgery in 1994.
In a feature interview with New York magazine, she shared: “I can’t claim that what I have achieved is equivalent to what a woman has achieved. For the first half of my life, I was male.” Last year, Rothblatt earned $38 million as the CEO of United Therapeutics.
Rothblatt launched an initiative to create medicine for her daughter who has primary pulmonary hypertension.
Besides Rothblatt’s wealth and business skills, she is interested in artificial intelligence and actually has a talking robot that is modeled after her wife of 33 years.
